Babes of Bass Interview #6: Kurei

Lightning in a Bottle is known for booking more femme DJs than most other festivals in the game. Let’s get to know the babes within the bass! The second interview of Lightning in a Bottle is with Bass n Babe’s very own, Kurei! Kurei is known for her sassy, glam, and baddie energy! Queen of UK Garage and currently moving her sound more towards house, her set at LiB was a true expression of herself and her new direction. Let’s hear from her about her journey:

Baby Kush: What do you wish a younger version of yourself knew before starting your journey as an artist?

Kurei: To be less worried about what anyone else is doing. I wish I trusted my intuition a little bit more. 😌

Baby Kush: How would you describe your sound?

Kurei: Ethereal, euphoric, melodic, and slutty. ✨🥰👅

Baby Kush: When did you realize you wanted to be a DJ and Producer?

Kurei: I saw Alison Wonderland at EDC. That set was so inspiring, I was literally crying through the whole thing. That was when I realized, ‘That’s what I need to be doing!’ 😭😩

Baby Kush: How did you come up with your artist name?

Kurei: My artist name is actually Japanese for a queen or an empress. I’m ¼ Japanese and that’s an homage to my roots. 🌸👑

Baby Kush: Do you have any advice for aspiring young women DJ and Producers?

Kurei: Don’t give af what anyone’s saying or doing, do your own thing! I promise if you stay true to that, it will work. 🫵🏆

Baby Kush: What is your most memorable fan interaction?

Kurei: This fan gave me a Kuromi cup and was like, ‘I know you’re so into Sanrio and I just wanted to give you this because it embodies your vibe!’ The fact that somebody took time out of their day to think about me to that extent, I was literally in tears. 🥲

Baby Kush: What is your dream b2b?

Kurei: Clearcast! They are such an insane artist and I play so much of their music in my sets. 😎

Baby Kush: What do you want your legacy to be?

Kurei: I just want to be able to inspire others by doing what I’m doing. I just wanna be a bad bitch and show other bad bitches that they can be bad bitches. 🔥💋
