Babes of Bass Interview #8: VEIL

The fourth interview of Lightning in a Bottle, and eighth of our Babes of Bass series, is with Veil. Veil is a Denver-based DJ known for her high-energy sets that take you on a journey through different bass sounds. Veil just wants to have some fun and that energy is so contagious wherever she plays. Jr. Bass and Babe, SOOSI, conducted our interview with Veil at LiB:

SOOSI: How would you describe your sound?

Veil: I want to create the veil between worlds. I like to play a wide range of bass music genres, get people feeling a little weird, a little creepy, a little sexy, a little scary. 👹😈💋

SOOSI: When did you realize you wanted to be a DJ?

Veil: I DJ’d my high school dance with my gym teacher. I think I’ve been a selector for as long as I could have been. Once I learned the hardware, GAME OVER. 👾🎯

SOOSI: What do you wish a younger version of yourself knew before starting your journey as an artist?

Veil: Just keep going, it gets really hard out there for everyone. I just want to comfort myself in those moments where it's felt like impossible to keep going. 🫂❤️‍🩹

SOOSI: What is your advice to aspiring DJs and producers?

Veil: Be bold, be aggressive, don’t be scared to talk about yourself, and follow your heart, most importantly. 😤🫵

SOOSI: What is your dream b2b set?

Veil: I’ve been thinking that me and Jon Casey would throw a really nasty back to back. One of my besties, A Hundred Drums, we’ve never actually done the official back to back and I think we’re coming up on that soon. 🤫

SOOSI: What do you want your legacy to be?

Veil: Be genuine, be yourself. Over the years, it's become clear to me that does make an impression on people. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for being kind to people. 😌🫶🏻

SOOSI: What is your most memorable fan interaction?

Veil: I had this guy who made a big sign that said ‘Veil is wife’ and you know I had mixed feelings about it at first but at the end of the day I really appreciated it and I loved him for it. He actually got a tattoo with my logo. It is an amazing reminder to be confronted with people who are really fucking with your art, that humbles me constantly. 🥰😇
