Babes of Bass Interview #11: Ratchaelbeats
Bass n Babes joined forces with Electric Hawk to touch down at Shambhala music festival and interview some of the badass women on the lineup. We had the pleasure of speaking with RatchaelBeats after she made her debut at the Amp Stage.
Baby Kush: It’s Baby Kush with Bass n Babes and today I’m here at Shambhala with an amazing artist who just got off of The AMP Stage.
Ratchaelbeats: I go by Ratchaelbeats.
How would you describe your sound?
Ratchaelbeats: Booty-shakin, twerkin, fun, ratchet, bring all the baddies to the floor kind of shit.
When did you realize you wanted to be a DJ?
Ratchaelbeats: I actually became a DJ by accident. I just bought a mixer during COVID cause I was bored, I missed festivals and my friends and people started booking me and I was like, “Oh shit, okay! Let’s go!”
Who are some women who have inspired you on your artistic journey?
Ratchaelbeats: Tokimonsta is a really big influence. The first time I had ever seen an Asian woman on the stage, and I never thought like “Oh, I can do this?! This is amazing!”
What do you wish a younger version of yourself knew before you started your journey?
Ratchaelbeats: Take it all in and be grateful and stay humble, just be grateful for these moments.
Do you have any advice for aspiring younger femme DJs and producers?
Ratchaelbeats: Just keep going, don’t give up. It is hard sometimes, sometimes we get discouraged, but just keep going.
Do you have a most memorable fan interaction?
Ratchaelbeats: It was on Friendship actually, and this was before I played like two years ago I was in the islands of Belize and people were “Ratchaelbeats?!” and I was like, we are literally in South America right now, you recognize me?!
What is your dream back to back set?
Ratchaelbeats: Another Kyra baddie, BrittanyFromEarlier, Beat Kitty, all the Kyra baddies.
What do you want your legacy to be?
Ratchaelbeats: For women to be able to express themselves and feel free and empowered to own their bodies, own their sexuality, own who they are and not be ashamed of it.
